Solar Report publishes guides and a free calculator for people in the UK who are thinking about solar panels or a home battery. We explain what a system costs, what it could save at today's prices, which rules apply in your nation and what to check on a quote, so you can talk to installers knowing what a good offer looks like. The site is run by Kind Services, a company based in the United States, and no installer or energy supplier pays us.

What you'll find here
- Guides to costs, savings, export tariffs, batteries, grants and the rules in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Figures that change over time, such as the Ofgem price cap, are given with their dates.
- Brand pages for panel, inverter and battery makers that are sold and supported in the UK, written from the manufacturers' datasheets and UK warranty documents.
- A solar calculator for homes in England, Scotland and Wales. Where map data exists, it looks up your roof. It shows the main assumptions next to the result, and lets you change most of them. To open your full result, it asks for your name, email address and phone number, and for you to ask us to match you with an MCS-certified installer for a quote.
How we're funded
Solar Report is free to use and is funded by its operator, Kind Services. No installer or energy supplier pays us, and nobody pays to appear on a page or for their position on it. That is why we can call the site independent today.
You can now ask us for quotes. We don't work with any installers yet, and no installer pays us. When we match you with an MCS-certified installer, we share your details with them and email you. If installers start paying us for the requests we pass on, we'll say so here and wherever you can ask for quotes before the first paid request, and we'll say whether payment affects anything we publish.
What we don't do
We don't install systems or sell equipment. We don't test products in a laboratory, visit roofs or check installers' work, and we don't give financial advice. Our estimates are not quotes and not the MCS performance estimate an installer must give you before you sign. A brand page means the brand is sold in the UK, not that it suits your roof.
How we write and check our pages
Each rule, rate and official figure on the site comes from a primary source: legislation, government departments, Ofgem, MCS, energy suppliers' own tariff pages and manufacturers' documents. Our own estimates, such as the calculator's price model, are labelled as ours. Before a page goes live it passes separate checks on its facts and calculations, on UK advertising and consumer rules, and on whether it answers the reader's question clearly. Our editorial method describes each step, how the calculator works and how we correct mistakes.
Your decision stays yours
A solar installation ties up money and your roof for many years. Keep the exact models, the installer's generation estimate, the itemised price and the written warranties, and compare quotes that cover the same work. Use our cost guide and calculator to check the figures you are given, and ask the installer to put any unclear answer in writing.
