JA Solar panels: DeepBlue 4.0 models, warranty and UK buying

JA Solar is a sensible panel to accept on a UK quote if the installer names the full DeepBlue code, because the code decides the build and the warranty. Its current house-size panels are n-type DeepBlue 4.0 modules, sold in several versions that look alike on paper. JA's global warranty, effective 16 June 2026, lists the JAM54D40 at 15 years' product warranty and the black JAM54D41 at 25, both with a 30-year power warranty; but JA's European site sells both codes in "15Y" and "25Y" versions, so the version decides, and the product-warranty years must be written on your quote. JA's panels are listed in the MCS product directory and sold through UK wholesalers such as Power Warehouse.

Reading a DeepBlue code

A JA Solar code such as JAM54D40-460/LR reads in blocks:

Two panels called "DeepBlue 4.0" can differ in size, construction and warranty. The code should be the same on your quote, the invoice and the delivery note, and if the installer swaps the model, ask for the new datasheet and warranty terms in writing.

Watts, efficiency and your roof

The MCS product directory lists the JAM54D40 LR from 420 W to 475 W. A higher wattage helps when the roof, not the budget, sets the number of panels.

Example (illustrative): if twelve panels fit your roof, twelve 440 W panels give 5.28 kWp and twelve 470 W panels give 5.64 kWp, 0.36 kWp (about 7%) more. That doesn't mean 7% more savings: orientation, shade, the inverter and how much electricity you use in daylight all change the result. What JA's 2026 warranty gives

JA Solar's Limited Warranty took effect on 16 June 2026 and applies to panels first sold after that date; older panels keep the warranty that applied when they were sold. It has two parts: a product warranty against defects in design, materials or manufacture, and a power warranty promising a minimum output under test conditions.

Codes that JA's first table doesn't name individually, such as many 60- and 72-cell versions, fall under a 12-year product warranty.

For the DeepBlue 4.0 rows, JA guarantees no more than 1% loss in the first year and 0.40% a year after that, reaching 87.4% at year 30 (1% + 0.40% × 29 = 12.6% loss). For a 460 W panel that means at least 402 W under test conditions after 30 years (460 × 0.874 = 402.0). It doesn't promise a fixed yearly generation from your roof. JA's European site sells both the JAM54D40 and the black JAM54D41 in "15Y" and "25Y" versions, with the product-warranty years in the product name. So a D41 can be a 15-year panel and a D40 a 25-year one: the 15Y or 25Y version decides, and the quote should name it and come with the document that shows it.

The June 2026 terms also set conditions that affect a homeowner:

• Tell JA within 14 days of becoming aware of a fault, in writing to its after-sales department (Services@jasolar.com), with proof of purchase, serial numbers, the warranty start date and the installation address.
• Proof of purchase must trace back to JA. If you didn't buy directly from JA, you need paperwork linking your panels to JA's own sale, so ask your installer for the supplier invoice reference.
• The warranty belongs to JA's buyer, or a successor JA confirms in writing, and only while the panels stay where they were first installed.
• Removal and refitting are not covered, and panels installed by people without the qualifications the law requires are excluded.

Buying JA Solar panels in the UK

JA's panels are listed in the MCS product directory under JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd. and Shanghai JA Solar Tech Co Ltd. The JAM54D40 LR listing runs from 24 October 2025 with no end date shown. Look up the code on your quote in the directory.

JA's European website lists no UK office; its European company is JA Solar GmbH in Munich (info.eu@jasolar.com). You'll buy JA panels through an installer, who sources them from a UK wholesaler; Power Warehouse in Oldbury, for example, lists JA panels.

If the installer supplies the panels and fits them in your home, you pay no VAT until 31 March 2027 and 5% from 1 April 2027 unless the relief is extended; panels bought without installation are charged at 20%. In Great Britain, payments for exported electricity come from licensed suppliers' own Smart Export Guarantee tariffs, whose rates and conditions vary, and the installation needs MCS certification (or an equivalent) to qualify. Northern Ireland has no SEG.

JA's warranty says a buyer may have other legal rights, depending on where the panels are installed, and that those rights remain unaffected. In the UK that means the Consumer Rights Act 2015: if a panel is faulty or the fitting wasn't done with reasonable care and skill, you can ask the business that sold it to put it right, whatever JA decides about its own warranty. Because JA's 14-day notice and paperwork rules are strict, agree in writing that the installer will lodge any claim for you. Before you accept a JA Solar quote

• The full code, including the suffix (for example JAM54D40-460/LR), the number of panels and the total kWp.
• The product-warranty years for that exact product, written on the quote (JA sells D40 and D41 panels in 15- and 25-year versions, and the 15Y or 25Y version decides).
• A production estimate at the front-side rating, with no rear-side gain unless the mounting justifies it.
• The supplier invoice reference and a list of serial numbers at handover.
• Who lodges a warranty claim within JA's 14 days, and who pays for access and refitting.

JA Solar suits a buyer who wants a mainstream n-type panel and gets a precise, well-documented quote. If a longer product warranty matters to you, ask for a 25-year version (JA sells both the D40 and the black D41 with 25 years in Europe) and get the document that shows it.
