GoodWe in the UK: hybrid inverters and Lynx batteries

GoodWe deserves a place on your shortlist if you want a hybrid inverter and battery from one maker, fitted by an installer who can show the two are approved to work together. GoodWe sells several inverter and battery families that aren't interchangeable. "GoodWe with battery" on a quote doesn't tell you the usable capacity, the backup power or which warranty you'll get. The quote should name the inverter, the battery, their versions and the metering and protection parts.

GoodWe's UK company has been registered since 2015 and lists a London office and a UK service line. Its European inverter warranty names the UK among the countries it covers.

Choose the inverter first

A hybrid inverter takes the DC power from your panels and also manages a battery connected to it. GoodWe also sells inverters that handle solar only. The difference matters if you might add a battery later: a solar-only inverter won't run a Lynx battery, so you may end up replacing it. Our guide to hybrid inverters explains the designs.

GoodWe's current European range for homes includes:

High-voltage and low-voltage batteries are different products for different inverters, so the battery type follows from the inverter you choose.

The EH PLUS+ has two MPPT inputs, so an east-facing and a west-facing roof can be wired as separate strings, as long as each stays within the input's limits. Two inputs don't solve shading on their own; ask for the string layout, the voltage and current checks, and a yearly output estimate for your roof.

G98 or G99. In Great Britain, up to 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply can go in under G98: the installer fits the system and notifies the network operator within 28 days (30 days in Northern Ireland under G98/NI). G98 also needs a type-tested model on the ENA register. When we checked (24 September 2026), the register listed GoodWe's 3.6 kW ES G2 (GW3600-ES-20) and its GW3.6K-EHA-G20 hybrid with Compliant G98 records for Great Britain, but no EH PLUS+ model codes (GW…N-EH), so ask the installer which exact code they will fit and to show you its register entry. The 5 and 6 kW hybrids are above the limit, so the installer applies under G99 and waits for approval before connecting.

Don't mix up the Lynx batteries

GoodWe uses the Lynx name for several batteries. The Lynx Home F (including F PLUS+ and F G2) is a high-voltage stack; the datasheet we checked (January 2023) gives 6.55, 9.83, 13.10 and 16.38 kWh usable for its four sizes. The Lynx D is a newer high-voltage battery built from 5 kWh modules, up to eight in a stack (40 kWh). The Lynx U G3 is a low-voltage 5 kWh module for the ES G2. They are not the same product with different labels: capacity, voltage, control and warranty all differ.

Ask for the usable energy of the set-up you're offered. It's measured in kWh under the test conditions in the datasheet, and you get a little less at the socket after conversion losses and any backup reserve. Power, in kW, is a separate limit set by the battery and inverter together: one Lynx D module is rated at 3 kW, and the 9.83 kWh Lynx Home F at 7.68 kW, before any limit set by the inverter. A 9.8 kWh battery doesn't mean 9.8 kW of appliances.

GoodWe's compatibility list for Europe goes down to firmware: for example, a Lynx D on an EH inverter needs inverter firmware ARM 29 and DSP 08 or later. Ask the installer to check your exact line on that list when ordering and to record the result in your handover pack.

Size from your meter readings, not the brochure. Example (illustrative): a household using about 2,500 kWh a year that is out during the day might use 4 kWh in the evening; on a sunny day, a 6.55 kWh Lynx Home F can cover that from spare solar, but on a winter day with 1 kWh spare it stores only 1 kWh. A home that uses most of its power in daylight gains less from a battery. Homes with an electric car, a heat pump or a cheap overnight tariff can fill a larger battery from the grid at night. Adding a battery to an existing system

If you already have panels, the first question is what happens to your inverter. With a compatible GoodWe hybrid and space for the meter, adding a Lynx can be straightforward. With a solar-only inverter, compare swapping it for a hybrid with keeping it and adding an AC-coupled battery: GoodWe's range includes the SBP G2, a single-phase battery inverter for this kind of retrofit. Each route has different costs, warranties and G99 implications.

Ask for the cost of the battery fitted, set up and documented, not the battery on its own. Note your current inverter's age and remaining warranty, the space near the consumer unit and the cable route. Our guide to adding a battery to existing solar helps you compare two like-for-like quotes.

GoodWe's SEMS+ app shows production, consumption, battery charge and grid flows, if the meter is fitted and set up correctly. Ask for your own owner account at handover and watch the figures change as you switch something on. A meter clamped the wrong way round can make the app mislead you about when to use power.

Backup is a wiring job

The EH PLUS+ has a backup output. GoodWe's datasheet gives UPS-level switching in under 10 milliseconds and backup power of 3.6, 5 or 6 kVA depending on the model. That doesn't make every home with a Lynx battery self-sufficient. In a power cut your home has to be disconnected from the grid, and only the circuits wired to the backup output stay on. Ask for a list of backed-up circuits, for example lights, fridge and broadband. A washing machine, hob, heater or car charger changes the power needed, and motors draw extra when they start. A bigger battery in kWh lasts longer, but it doesn't fix a backup output that is too small for the loads you chose. Ask what power is available at different charge levels, what reserve is set, and for a switchover test at handover.

The warranty and its conditions

GoodWe's European inverter warranty (revision 3.9, effective 5 March 2026) covers products bought through authorised channels and installed in the EU, the UK, Norway or Switzerland:

• Home hybrid inverters made from 1 January 2026, including EH PLUS+, ET PLUS+ and ES G2: 10 years.
• Inverters made before 1 January 2026: 5 years as standard, with a free extension to 10 years if all the conditions below are met. Paid extensions are also sold.
• Wi-Fi modules, meters and similar accessories: 2 years.

The free extension for a hybrid needs an inverter made after 1 January 2021, a GoodWe Lynx battery (such as Lynx Home F, Lynx Home U or Lynx D) first operating between 15 May 2023 and 31 December 2026, the inverter connected to SEMS+ with its data uploaded, installation by a GoodWe PLUS+ installer, and the inverter and battery serial numbers registered with GoodWe. The extra five years follow the standard five, don't add to a paid extension, and cover parts only, not transport or labour. Don't count on them until you have the registration confirmation.

Other points worth knowing:

• The inverter warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable, which matters if you sell your house.
• Faults must be reported within one month of appearing. GoodWe asks you to go through your installer or distributor first.
• It covers the part, not labour: GoodWe may, at its discretion, pay a rebate towards on-site work.

For the original Lynx Home F (LX F6.6-H to LX F16.4-H), GoodWe's warranty (revision 1.5, June 2025) gives 10 years on the product and 10 years on performance: 70% of usable energy or a minimum throughput, whichever comes first. For the 9.83 kWh size that throughput is 25.16 MWh, about 2,560 full cycles (25,160 ÷ 9.83). It assumes up to one full cycle a day, faults must be reported within two weeks, and in the last five years GoodWe pays for parts only. The F PLUS+, F G2, Lynx D and Lynx U have their own warranties, so ask for the one that matches your battery.

Comparing two complete quotes

A GoodWe quote should separate the panels, hybrid inverter, battery, meter, backup wiring and installation. Ask for a version without the battery too, so you can see what storage really costs. Then compare the spare solar you could store, your evening use, losses and the warranty that applies.

If your installer supplies and fits the GoodWe hybrid and Lynx battery, you pay no VAT on them until 31 March 2027; after that the rate is 5% unless the relief is extended. In Great Britain, you're paid for a GoodWe system's export through an energy supplier's own Smart Export Guarantee tariff, at that supplier's rates and conditions, and only if the installation is certified by MCS or an equivalent scheme; Northern Ireland has no SEG. MCS lists panels, not inverters or batteries, so ask for the installer's MCS certificate and check whether they are a GoodWe PLUS+ installer if you want the free extension.

Because the inverter warranty won't pass to a buyer and claims start with your installer, the business you choose is part of the product. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 it has to put right faulty goods or poor work it supplied. Check whether it belongs to HIES or RECC, since MCS no longer requires either, and ask whether its workmanship warranty is insurance-backed and would transfer if you sold the house. Our view: GoodWe is a sound choice for a hybrid inverter and battery from one maker, provided your installer can show the exact model on the ENA register, the pairing on GoodWe's compatibility list and the warranty that applies. If you want the free inverter extension, it has to be a GoodWe PLUS+ installer. Compare it with a quote for the same usable kWh and backup from another hybrid maker.

GoodWe FAQs

Does a Lynx battery work with every GoodWe hybrid?

No. GoodWe's compatibility list matches battery models to inverter families and sometimes to minimum firmware versions. The family names alone don't prove a pairing works.

Does a 9.8 kWh Lynx battery give 9.8 kW?

No. kWh is stored energy; kW is how much power it can deliver at once, which depends on the battery, the inverter and the loads. Ask for the limit of the whole system.

Is GoodWe's 10-year inverter warranty automatic?

For home hybrids made from 1 January 2026, 10 years is standard. For older units, the free extension needs a Lynx battery, SEMS+ connection, a GoodWe PLUS+ installer and registration of the serial numbers. Get confirmation in writing.

Can the warranty pass to a new owner?

GoodWe's inverter warranty is for the original purchaser only. If you plan to move, ask your installer what cover a buyer would get.
