EcoFlow in the UK: STREAM, PowerOcean and plug-in kits

EcoFlow sells three kinds of home solar product in the UK, and each reaches your home by a different route. EcoFlow has two plug-in solar kits on the ENA register, but when we checked on 24 September 2026, its UK store said the STREAM microinverter kit it sells must be wired into your consumer unit by an electrician. STREAM batteries, such as the STREAM Ultra, carry a battery, so the plug-in rules don't cover them; EcoFlow's UK store says they must be hard-wired by a registered electrician. PowerOcean and OCEAN 2 are larger home battery systems fitted by installers. Choose the route first, then the product.

Both plug-in records were marked Compliant and published on 22 September 2026; the plug-in rules have applied in Great Britain since 27 August 2026. If you are new to plug-in kits, our plug-in solar guide explains the rules in full.

Which EcoFlow product fits your home?

EcoFlow and the plug-in rules

A kit you plug into a wall socket must have no more than 800 W of AC output, no battery, and meet the government's Interim Product Specification. Only one plug-in device is allowed per household until the grid connection rules (G98) are amended, you must notify your network operator, and the route covers Great Britain, not Northern Ireland.

EcoFlow's two plug-in records on the ENA register are named "EF-PS-800 + SPDG505-N108R12 Plug-In Solar Kit" and "EFStreamPlug-inSolarKit-UK", the second in FlatRoof, Facade and PitchedRoof versions. When we checked on 24 September 2026, EcoFlow's UK store didn't sell a kit under either name. Its STREAM 800W Microinverter Kit page said the kit must be connected to the distribution board by an electrician in the UK. Buy for the plug-in route only if the listing names one of these records and the kit comes with a standard UK plug and a declaration that it meets the government's specification.

Three points to check on an EcoFlow listing:

• No battery in the order. EcoFlow sells STREAM kits with and without a battery. Only the kit without a battery belongs on the plug-in route, and adding an EcoFlow battery later takes the set-up off the plug-in route; any STREAM battery needs the hard-wired route.
• Where the panels go. EcoFlow offers balcony, garden, facade and roof brackets. Don't climb onto a roof to fix panels yourself; if the only sunny spot is on a roof, pay a professional. The government's plug-in specification rules out timber balconies and timber, metal composite or laminate cladding anywhere in Great Britain, and in England plug-in panels are not permitted development on any wooden wall, balcony, fence or enclosure; see our plug-in solar guide for the planning rules.
• VAT. A kit bought from a shop is standard-rated at 20%. The 0% rate applies only when an installer supplies and fits the equipment in your home, and is scheduled to rise to 5% on 1 April 2027 unless extended.

In Great Britain, licensed electricity suppliers pay for exported power through their own Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariffs, each with its own rates and conditions, and those tariffs need MCS or equivalent certification. SEG eligibility for plug-in kits is not established, so value a kit on the electricity you use while it produces. Our plug-in solar kits guide compares kits on sale.

STREAM batteries: hard-wired, with three numbers to separate

EcoFlow's UK store says STREAM batteries come with a cable with stripped ends and no plug, and that "it must be installed by a certified, registered electrician". The same page says plug-in cables will be sold once the new regulation takes effect. The plug-in rules now in force exclude devices with a battery, so plan and budget for a hard-wired installation. If a plug-in cable for STREAM batteries goes on sale, the current rules still don't allow a battery to be plugged into a socket to feed your home.

A STREAM battery bought from EcoFlow carries 20% VAT; the electrician's fitting work can be zero-rated, and a business that supplies and fits a battery can charge 0% on the whole job until 31 March 2027, then 5% unless the relief is extended.

EcoFlow's UK specification for the STREAM Ultra lists:

• 1.92 kWh battery capacity;
• up to 2,000 W of solar input, across four MPPTs at 500 W each (an MPPT is a tracker that gets the most power from the panels connected to it);
• 800 W AC output to the grid-tied side;
• 1,200 W from its own AC sockets.

These are separate electrical paths, not 4,000 W for your home. The 2,000 W is a ceiling for panel input, and 1.92 kWh is nominal: you get back less after conversion losses and any reserve you set.

Sizing. A battery only helps if you have solar to spare. Look at what your panels export on typical days in each season: a household that already uses most of its midday solar has little to store, and in winter a small array may leave the battery barely charged. Paperwork. A hard-wired STREAM battery is a generator on your home's wiring. In Great Britain, your electrician notifies your network operator under G98 within 28 days, as long as the total inverter output at your home stays within 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply. If you already have rooftop solar, the combined output counts, and above that limit the operator's approval is needed before connection.

Power cuts: sockets, not the whole house

EcoFlow says the STREAM Ultra's built-in battery keeps its own AC sockets working off-grid and during outages. That can keep a fridge or router going while charge remains. It does not power your lighting circuits or consumer unit: the grid-tied side switches off in a power cut to protect people working on the network.

Check your appliances' start-up power against the 1,200 W socket rating before relying on it. Never connect a battery socket to a wall socket to feed your wiring; that can put lethal voltage on cables others believe are dead. PowerOcean and OCEAN 2: the installer route

PowerOcean and the newer OCEAN 2 are EcoFlow's home battery systems for rooftop solar: a hybrid inverter plus stackable battery modules, sold through installers, with a free-quote form on EcoFlow's UK site. EcoFlow's UK page for OCEAN 2 single-phase lists inverters rated at 3, 5 and 6 kVA, and its datasheet gives two battery sizes:

Compare quotes on usable kWh. On 24 September 2026 the ENA register listed EcoFlow energy-storage inverter records that included single-phase units from 3 kW to 12 kW, all marked Compliant. Ask your installer which record matches your inverter. In Great Britain, on a single-phase supply, an inverter rated above 3.68 kW needs the network operator's approval under G99 before it is connected.

EcoFlow's OCEAN 2 battery warranty is a European edition (V1.7, valid from 21 August 2026), issued by EcoFlow Germany GmbH and published on EcoFlow's UK documentation page. It says:

• 5 kWh module: 15 years, with a warranty threshold of 60% of usable energy, or until 21.9 MWh has passed through it, whichever comes first.
• 8 kWh module: 10 years at 70%, or 29.97 MWh. An optional 5-year extension, bought through your installer within 12 months, takes it to 15 years at 60% or 35.1 MWh.
• The system must stay online for firmware and safety updates. If it is disconnected for more than a year, cover falls to 5 years from activation.
• Claims go through your installer first, and installation by someone EcoFlow has not authorised is excluded.

The throughput cap matters if you charge from the grid at night as well as from solar. For the 5 kWh module, 21.9 MWh is about 4,500 full cycles (21,900 kWh ÷ 4.87 kWh), which is 0.82 a day over 15 years. A battery that cycles twice a day on a time-of-use tariff can reach the cap well before year 15. Our solar battery cost guide covers what installed batteries typically cost.

Warranties across the range

EcoFlow's UK warranty page lists 10 years for STREAM batteries and the STREAM microinverter, 10 years for the STREAM Gateway (2 for its built-in meter), 1 year for mounting brackets, and 5 to 12 years for EcoFlow's own panels, depending on the model. The page repeats text from EcoFlow's European policy, so keep your order confirmation as proof of what you bought. Report a fault within 30 days of it happening, with a photo or video showing the serial number, and photograph every part's serial number when you unpack a kit.

Buying EcoFlow: who you deal with if something goes wrong

EcoFlow's UK store is run by EcoFlow Innovation UK Ltd. Whether you buy there or from a retailer, your Consumer Rights Act 2015 rights are against the seller: goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, whatever the warranty says. Buying online also gives you 14 days from delivery to cancel most goods.

A hard-wired STREAM battery adds a second contract: the electrician's work. Ask for the electrical installation certificate and a copy of the G98 notification, and agree before the job who deals with a fault that could be the battery or the wiring.

With PowerOcean, the installer sells you the whole system and is responsible for it, alongside EcoFlow's warranty. MCS certification does not include consumer-code membership, so if deposit protection matters, check the installer on the RECC or HIES register too. Our view: EcoFlow is worth a look if you want a small solar kit, or a modular battery you may extend later. Match each product to its route: a battery-free kit that matches a plug-in record, an electrician for a STREAM battery, an installer for PowerOcean. Compare usable kWh and warranty conditions, not headline watts.

Can I plug a STREAM Ultra into a socket in the UK?

No. The plug-in rules exclude devices with a battery, and EcoFlow's UK store says STREAM batteries must be hard-wired by a certified, registered electrician. For the plug-in route you need a battery-free kit that matches one of EcoFlow's two plug-in records on the ENA register. EcoFlow's UK store says the STREAM microinverter kit it sells needs an electrician.

Will a STREAM battery keep my house running in a power cut?

No, only what is plugged into its own sockets, up to 1,200 W on the STREAM Ultra, and only while it holds charge. Backing up circuits in your home needs a system designed and installed for that.

How long is the OCEAN 2 battery warranty?

For the OCEAN 2 5 kWh module, 15 years or 21.9 MWh of throughput, whichever comes first, with a threshold of 60% of usable energy. The 8 kWh module has 10 years, extendable to 15 through your installer. Both depend on the system staying online. For a first-generation PowerOcean battery, ask the installer for its own warranty document; EcoFlow's UK documentation page lists only the OCEAN 2 policy.
