Growatt inverters and batteries: UK models and warranty

Growatt is worth comparing when the quote names the full model suffix, every part still needed for a battery or backup, and the warranty certificate for your serial number. Growatt, which handles UK service through Growatt New Energy Technology Limited in Ilford, makes inverters for solar panels only, "battery-ready" models and hybrids that run a battery from day one. An XH inverter is ready for a battery but does not include one, and backup needs extra hardware. Also check whether the inverter size needs the network operator's approval.

Growatt at a glance

The UK company is active on Companies House (number 08660706, incorporated 2013). That matters: Growatt's service terms say warranty cover depends on the country of sale, installation and after-sales service matching, so buy a model supplied for the UK market through a UK installer.

Not every variant in Growatt's global catalogue is sold in the UK, so the model on your quote should match a UK register entry.

Battery-ready is not battery included

The MIN 2500–6000TL-XH2 is Growatt's current single-phase battery-ready model. Its July 2026 datasheet lists these points:

It has two MPPTs, takes up to 16 A per input and runs as a normal solar inverter until a battery is connected. Two things are easy to miss:

• The datasheet lists Growatt's own high-voltage APX HV battery (360–550 V on this model), not any 48 V battery.
• Backup needs a SYN 50-XH-10 unit. Without it the inverter will not power your home in a power cut, battery or not.

SPH: a hybrid for low-voltage batteries

The SPH 3000–6000TL BL-UP runs a low-voltage battery (42–59 V, lithium or lead-acid) from the start. From its April 2026 datasheet:

• AC output from 3,000 W to 6,000 W, two MPPTs;
• continuous battery charging and discharging up to 4,000 W (3,000 W if charging only from the grid);
• backup output up to 4,000 W on the 4 to 6 kW models, switching in under 10 ms;
• maximum efficiency 97.2% to 97.6%.

So the 6 kW SPH exports up to 6 kW in sunshine but supplies no more than 4 kW from the battery. In a power cut it also supplies no more than 4 kW, and only to circuits wired to its backup output. Choose those circuits (fridge, lights, router, boiler controls) and ask for a test at handover.

Choose the battery by evening and overnight use, not by the biggest size on offer. Storing energy loses some of it, and power you store is power you do not export. Our solar battery guide explains the trade-off.

G98 or G99: which sizes need approval?

In Great Britain, a system is connected under G98 if its inverters total no more than 16 A per phase, which is 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply. The installer notifies the network operator (DNO) within 28 days. Above that, G99 applies and the installer needs the DNO's approval before connecting.

• The SPH 3600TL BL-UP (3,680 W, 16 A) and the MIN 3600TL-XH2 (3,600 W, 16 A) sit within G98 on a single-phase supply.
• Single-phase models of 4 kW and above exceed 3.68 kW, so they need a G99 application whatever the panel size.
• A separate battery inverter added later counts towards the same total.

In Northern Ireland the equivalent rules are G98/NI and G99/NI. The ENA type-test register lists MIN TL-X, MIN TL-XH, MOD TL3-X and XH and SPH BL-UP models as compliant. That register closed to new entries on 16 April 2024; the newer XH2 publishes its own G98 and G99 certificates on Growatt's product page, and ENA now takes registrations through Connect Direct.

Roofs and microinverters

The MIN and SPH models have two MPPTs, each managing a group of panels, which suits a roof with an east and a west face: ask which panels go on which input. For several small faces or patchy shade, Growatt's NEO microinverters (one unit for every two to four panels) are the alternative; compare how a faulty unit on the roof would be replaced, not just the price.

Warranty and UK support

Growatt's service terms describe a 5-year standard factory warranty, running from the installation date on the certificate and no later than six months after the product left Growatt. Some datasheets say more: the MIN XH2 sheet states 10 years, the SPH BL-UP sheet 5 years with 10 years optional. Growatt also says that where a warranty period is written on the sales order, that period applies. So do not rely on a general figure:

• ask for the warranty certificate for your serial number (Growatt offers a warranty check and certificate download by serial number);
• if you want an extension, apply within two years of installation;
• keep the invoice and installation documents, which Growatt may ask for with a claim.

Growatt does not offer installation, and its on-site commissioning service is only for plants above 500 kW, so in practice your installer removes and refits a faulty unit: ask who pays for that labour. Growatt pays freight for products under warranty only to the country where they were first sold, and says it can generally dispatch a replacement within 5 business days.

Because Growatt's cover depends on a UK sale, installation and service chain, the installer who supplied your unit is also your route to a claim, and under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you can ask that business to put a fault right. Neither the ENA listing nor the installer's MCS certificate tells you whether they belong to RECC or HIES, so check the code's own register if you want its deposit and workmanship protection. Plug-in and balcony products

Growatt's global catalogue also lists balcony and plug-in storage, such as the NOAH 2000 and VETA 2200. The UK rules for plug-in solar, in force since 27 August 2026, allow devices up to 800 W but exclude batteries, so these products cannot be connected as plug-in solar under the UK rules. Comparing Growatt quotes

Check each quote for:

1. the full code, including the X, XH, XH2 or BL-UP suffix;
2. for battery-ready models, the price of the battery, the SYN backup unit and commissioning;
3. the battery model and module count, and that Growatt lists the combination;
4. backup power in kW and the circuits it covers;
5. G98 notification or a G99 application;
6. the meter or current clamp, so Growatt's monitoring shows household use and not just generation, and your own login;
7. the warranty certificate and who handles claims;
8. the MCS certificate (or equivalent certification), which Smart Export Guarantee suppliers in Great Britain ask for before paying.
