Tesla Powerwall 3 price in the UK (2026)

A Tesla Powerwall 3 costs about £7,400 to £8,000 installed in the UK, going by three UK sellers' prices in September 2026: around £7,395 at Heatable, from £7,795 at E.ON Next and from £7,999 at Octopus Energy. Sunsave's cost guide (July 2026) gives a higher general estimate of around £9,000. That buys 13.5 kWh of usable storage with a solar inverter built in, at 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Check whether the price includes the Backup Gateway 2, which you need for power during a power cut.

Published Powerwall 3 prices

The last column divides each price by the Powerwall 3's 13.5 kWh; for example, £7,999 ÷ 13.5 = £593 per kWh. These are published prices and one general estimate, not quotes, and they don't all cover the same things. E.ON's page was also advertising a discount on Tesla batteries, with terms, so ask whether a quoted price includes it. Heatable's page gives a second figure too: £6,495 for the battery plus £1,000 to £2,500 for installation and hardware.

You buy a Powerwall 3 through an installer, not off the shelf. Tesla's warranty covers Powerwalls bought from Tesla or a Tesla certified installer, so ask any installer to confirm it is certified before you buy.

What the price includes, and what can cost extra

Line up quotes on these points before comparing totals:

• Backup. A Powerwall 3 can be installed with or without backup. Tesla's UK datasheet says Backup Gateway 2 is required for a backup installation; without it, a Tesla Remote Meter is used and the battery won't power your home in a power cut. E.ON and Octopus both describe backup as optional, so ask whether it is in the price.
• Power setting and grid paperwork. The datasheet lets the installer set the output from 3.68 kW to 11.04 kW. In Great Britain, above 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply, or with an existing solar inverter left in place, the network operator must approve the connection before it is switched on (G99). Ask who makes the application and whether the fee is included.
• Electrical work. Changes to your consumer unit, new cabling, isolators and a separate board for backed-up circuits.
• Location. A Powerwall 3 weighs 130 kg, so the wall or floor must take it.

Adding an Expansion unit

A Powerwall 3 Expansion adds another 13.5 kWh without a second inverter. Octopus prices it at £3,773 if it goes in at the same time as a Powerwall 3 and £5,909 if it is added to a Powerwall 3 that Octopus installed; Octopus says it can't add one to a Powerwall 3 fitted by someone else (page read 24 September 2026). So a Powerwall 3 with one Expansion from Octopus costs from £7,999 + £3,773 = £11,772 for 27 kWh, about £436 per kWh.

An Expansion raises the charging power from 5 kW to 8 kW, according to Tesla's datasheet, but not the output. It only pays if you have the solar surplus or cheap-rate hours to fill it.

With new solar panels

Because the Powerwall 3 has a solar inverter built in, a new solar-and-battery system doesn't need a separate one. So the Powerwall's extra cost over panels alone is less than its sticker price. As a rough guide: our calculator's price model allows about £900 for a battery-ready solar inverter, so a Powerwall 3 at £7,999 adds about £7,999 − £900 = £7,099 to a panels-only quote. Octopus suggests the Powerwall 3 for larger homes with 10 to 36 panels; it doesn't publish a price for those packages, so ask for the same system quoted with and without the battery.

Is a Powerwall 3 worth its price?

It depends on how much of its 13.5 kWh your home can use.

A typical home storing solar only. Picture a home out for half the day that uses Ofgem's typical 2,500 kWh a year, with 4 kWp of south-facing panels in Birmingham generating about 3,872 kWh a year (PVGIS). MCS's self-consumption tables (guidance note MGD 003), which installers use for their estimates, show a 13.5 kWh battery raising the share of solar used at home from 19% to 60%. That is (60% − 19%) × 3,872 = 1,588 kWh stored a year, only about 39 kWh more than a 10 kWh battery. At the datasheet's 89% efficiency, it delivers 1,413 kWh, worth £371.90 at the October to December 2026 price cap of 26.32p. Take away the export you give up:

• keep your supplier and export at 6p (E.ON Next Flex Export, open to anyone): £371.90 − (1,588 × 6p) = £277 a year;
• export at Octopus Outgoing's 12p, which needs Octopus as your electricity supplier: £371.90 − (1,588 × 12p) = £181 a year.

Over the 10-year warranty that is £2,766 at 6p, or £1,814 at Octopus's 12p (which needs Octopus as your electricity supplier), well below the £7,099 extra cost with new panels. On solar storage alone, at today's prices, the Powerwall 3 would take about 26 years to pay back for this home at 6p export, or 39 years at 12p with Octopus as your electricity supplier; with import prices rising 2% a year from the second year (in line with the Bank of England's 2% inflation target; an assumption, not a forecast), still about 20 years at 6p or 25 years at 12p with Octopus as your supplier. A home with an electric car and an overnight tariff. In our calculator's example, a Birmingham home using 4,500 kWh a year with an electric car, 6 kWp of panels and a 10 kWh battery, on Intelligent Octopus Go 12M Fixed (which needs an electric car or compatible charger and Octopus as your supplier), saves £1,542 in the first year compared with the same tariff without panels or a battery (system £13,500, payback about 8.9 years); the panels alone save £951 (£9,300, about 10.0 years). So the battery adds about £591 a year, with exports at Octopus Outgoing's 12p, which also needs Octopus as your electricity supplier. If a Powerwall 3 added the same on that tariff, with Octopus as your electricity supplier, its £7,099 extra cost would take about 12 years to recover (£7,099 ÷ £591). It can store more than the calculator's 10 kWh battery, so it may add more, but only if the home uses the extra overnight energy. The warranty. Tesla's warranty for the UK covers 10 years and 80% of 13.5 kWh after 10 years, with unlimited cycles for solar self-consumption, time-of-use charging and backup. The Powerwall must stay connected to the internet to keep the full 10 years; Tesla says it will honour at least 4.

VAT on a Powerwall 3

A Powerwall 3 supplied and installed in your home carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, whether it goes in with new panels, is added to existing ones or has no panels at all. From 1 April 2027 the rate is due to return to 5%, not 20%, unless the relief is extended. A battery bought without installation is charged at 20%.
